Art Exhibition – Cash & Carry

Monday, December 12th, 2011

Over thirty Mid-Canterbury artists are exhibiting works in the annual Cash & Carry Art Exhibition at the Heritage Centre Art Gallery.
This is an ideal opportunity to purchase a special piece of local art at a very reasonable price.
“We are intending to hold this exhibition each year, just prior to Christmas and extending over the holiday period,” said Jackie Hunter-Letham, Centre Manager. “Last year’s inaugural event was very successful, and many local people took the opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts. Visitors to Methven also purchased works to take home with them as a memory of their trip.”
“During the year we host solo and joint exhibitions, so this particular exhibition is a yearly opportunity for emerging local artists to exhibit their work to the public. A number of College students have entered items too, which is especially pleasing. We are really delighted that so many artists have chosen to participate. It is a wonderful response.”
The exhibition has paintings in a variety of mediums, as well as a number of photographs and a wire work. Each artist is displaying two pieces, which when sold, can be taken home immediately by the purchaser. The artists can then replace the sold piece with another artwork.
Hunter-Letham says that they have a number of exhibitions planned for next year, but are keen to talk to other artists and art groups. “We’d love to have a variety of art exhibited at the Heritage Centre, such as pottery, wood turning, weaving and installations.”

The Christmas Cash & Carry Exhibition at the Methven Heritage Centre Art Gallery is open daily from 10am – 5pm from Saturday the 10th December until the end of January.
